Cape Cod is a four season playground, where fishing, bicycle touring, golf, tennis, boating and beautiful beaches fill the day several months of the year. Twenty-one private campgrounds, from full facilities or primitive tenting along the National Seashore, make the Cape a campers paradise. Martha's Vineyard is a ferry ride to a charming island resort with one private campground.
Discover Indian summer on the Cape. From September through the beginning of November, sunny warm days linger on the Cape, and most of the summer attractions and restaurants are still open. There will be fall festivals, cranberry harvest celebrations and fairs. Although the summer crowds are gone, the atmosphere and beauty remain, as the pace slows for fall on beautiful Cape Cod.
The Cape is divided into three parts. The Upper Cape runs from the Cape Cod Canal east to Hyannis, and includes Falmouth, Bourne and Sandwich. The Mid Cape, from Hyannis to Orleans, retains the country flavor on its northern coast, while the southern coast is more developed. The Outer Cape, the north-south forearm, includes the National Seashore, small villages and Provincetown. From the northeast Rte. 3, and the Sagamore bridge bring visitors across the canal to Route 6 & 6A traveling the Cape on its northern side along Cape Cod Bay.
Approaching from the south/east, over the Bourne bridge, Rte. 28 heads south toward Falmouth and then east along the south coast of Nantucket Sound.
